Hurricane Electric’s primary domain he.net was placed on “client hold” by its domain registrar in early July 2024. A domain on client hold cannot be transferred, renewed, or updated, and DNS records may stop resolving depending on registrar action. The incident drew significant discussion on the NANOG and OUTAGES mailing lists; Hurricane Electric (AS6939) is one of the world’s largest IPv6 transit providers and a major carrier-neutral colocation operator. The situation was resolved without long-term service disruption.
